A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING
CONGRESSWOMAN FREDERICA WILSON’S REQUEST FOR
FEDERAL FUNDING TO ESTABLISH A NEW BOYS & GIRLS
CLUB IN THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS. PROVIDING FOR THE
ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Mayor Rodney Harris is requesting that the City support the
establishment of a new Boys & Girls Club in Miami Gardens, and
WHEREAS, This year, the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee
will implement a new Community Project Funding initiative to allow members of Congress
to directly address the most significant needs of the communities they represent, and
WHEREAS, Members of Congress can submit local projects to the Appropriations
Committee for consideration of targeted federal funds to be utilized within one fiscal year.
Congresswoman Frederica Wilson will request federal funding to establish a new Boys &
Girls Club, and
WHEREAS, The after-school club would be established at the Frederica S.
Wilson/Skyway Elementary School in the City, and
WHEREAS, The Miami Gardens club will initially serve 100 students across nine
of the following schools: Skyway Elementary, Miami Gardens Elementary, North Gardens
High School, Lake Stevens Middle School, Lakes Stevens Elementary, Barbara Hawkins
Elementary, Miramar High School, Carol City Middle, and North County K-8 Center.
Federal funding would be used for program expenses, and
WHEREAS, The Boys & Girls Club of Miami programs serve at-risk children with
sports, games, team projects, art, homework help, counseling, and other enrichment
activities and have provided after-school programs in the Miami-Dade community since
1941,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens

Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON APRIL 14, 2021.
