A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM
COUNCILWOMAN SHANNAN IGHODARO’S SPECIAL EVENTS
ACCOUNT IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED FIVE
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00), IN SUPPORT OF THE 59TH
INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION OF JAMAICA; PROVIDING
FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the proud history and rich culture of the Jamaica people date back
centuries, having evolved significant influence from foreign settlers and traders who
were drawn to the island’s ecological beauty, resources and strategic location, and
WHEREAS, on August 6, 1962, Jamaica became a free and independent
Country ending over 300 years of British rule, and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens has always sought to establish and
maintain strong ties, and
WHEREAS, in 2017 in celebration of our City’s cultural diversity the City of Miami
Gardens hosted Jo Mersa Marley, the grandson of the legendary Bob Marley during the
IMFest , and
WHEREAS, today Jamaican American and persons of Jamaican decent serve as
first line workers, nurses and police officers, teachers in our classrooms, civic and crime
watch leaders and pastors in local churches in the City of Miami Gardens,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby approve the allocation of five thousand dollars ($5,000) from Seat 3 Special
Events Account for the 59th Independence Celebration of Jamaica taking place Saturday,
August 7, 2021 at Bunche Park.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JULY 14, 2021.
