A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING ONE THOUSAND
DOLLARS ($1,000.00) FROM THE SEAT 6 PUBLIC AFFAIRS
ACCOUNT TO CONTRIBUTE FUNDS TO THE FEMALE
DEVELOPMENT WORLD ORGANIZATION AND THE ISSIAH
JOHN EDWARDS LEGACY FOUNDATION, INC.; PROVIDING
FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, non-profit organizations are essential to providing Miami Gardens
residents with valuable information, resources, and services; and
WHEREAS, it is crucial to support community organizations that strive to provide
public services which empower and uplift our community; and
WHEREAS, the Female Development World Organization (FDWO) was founded
in 2013 to address education, athletics, environment, health, and social development.
FDWO also aims to raise awareness for the prevention of child sexual abuse and human
trafficking, as well as environmental sustainability; and
WHEREAS, during the month of January, FDWO will be hosting its 5th Annual
National Human Trafficking Awareness Month Protect the Children Gala to spread public
awareness on how to recognize and appropriately respond to possible human trafficking
cases, as well as provide educational resources to help reduce victimization within
vulnerable populations. In alignment with its mission, FDWO has conducted numerous
workshops, events, and programs to provide vital resources to residents of Miami
Gardens and its surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, the Issiah John Edwards Legacy Foundation, Inc. is a local non-profit
organization that advocates for the Black and Latino-American populations within Miami
Gardens and surrounding communities. Through its advocacy, this organization facilitates
workshops, partnerships, and online education tutorials in order to address topics such
as higher education, affordable housing, finance and mental health; and
WHEREAS, during the month of April, the Issiah John Edwards Legacy
Foundation, Inc. will be hosting its 2nd Annual Issiah John Edwards Legacy Scholarship
Gala, which will provide scholarship awards to 6 local students. This organization has
committed itself to providing local Miami Gardens students with funding opportunities to
pursue their education and career aspirations; and
WHEREAS, Councilman Stephens recognizes the impact each non-profit
organization has made within the Miami Gardens community; and

WHEREAS, each non-profit organization will receive a donation in the sum of FIVE
HUNDRED DOLLARS ($500.00), to support services and programs through which they
each fulfill their mission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the allocation of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) each to the Female
Development World Organization and the Issiah John Edwards Legacy Foundation, Inc.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take place immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 12, 2022.
