A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA ALLOCATING ONE THOUSAND
($1000.00) FROM MAYOR RODNEY HARRIS' SPECIAL
EVENTS ACCOUNT FUND TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY
ACTION PROJECT FOR MIAMI CAROL CITY HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN A DISTRICT COMPETITION
KNOWN AS THE ASPEN CHALLENGE; PROVIDING FOR THE
ADOPTION OF FOR ANREPRESENTATIONS;PROVIDING
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Mayor Rodney Harris would like to allocate $1000.00 from his Special
events account to support students at Miami Carol City High school participating in the
Aspen Challenge district competition and their community action project, and
WHEREAS, Mayor Rodney Harris agrees that young people are moments from
being tomorrow's decision-makers and it is critical that we invest in our youth' aspirations
and plan of actions that will result in positive impact for others and our environment, and
futurebuildtoaims Challenge,AspenassuchprogramsWHEREAS, the
generations of engaged and equitable leaders by providing tools and a platform for young
people to play critical roles in identifying, designing and implementing solutions to address
environmental and/or communal concerns, and
WHEREAS, April 2022, students of Miami Carol City High school participated in a
8-week district competition known as the Aspen Challenge, and
WHEREAS, the students were required to identify a social problem and collaborate
to create an innovative solution, in addition, as part of the challenge, they had to engage
community leaders, presenting to Mayor Rodney Harris to get feedback, they presented
their identified challenge, research, and proposed solution, and
WHEREAS, the students identified problem and action plan includes, addressing
overgrown gardens at schools located in Miami-Dade County, supply items required for
this project's plan of action includes cover soil, lumber, gardening tools, non-floating
mulch and essentials needed for composting, this project requires financial support,
therefore, Miami Carol City High school, Aspen Challenge' students have requested
$1000.00, to establish a budget and to begin implementation of their action-plan,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.

Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorize the allocation of one thousand dollars ($1,000) from Mayor Harris’
special event account support the students at Miami Carol City High school participating
in the Aspen Challenge district competition.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
