Name Councilman Oliver Gilbert III Department: City Council Short Title: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING A RENTAL FEE WAIVER FOR THE
MIAMI‐DADE HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHERS SELF‐SUFFICIENCY PROGRAM (“FSS”) FOR USE OF THE BETTY T. FERGUSON FERGUSON RECREATIONAL COMPLEX TO HOST A JOB FAIR; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS;
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. Staff Summary: Background The Miami Dade Housing Choice Voucher Self‐Sufficiency Program (FSS) has approached the City with a request to use a facility to
host a job fair for its program participants. The FSS program is a voluntary program designed to help families achieve economic independence over a five‐year period. The program coordinating
committee anticipates 250 participants and as many as 25 different employers. ITEM K-6) CONSENT AGENDA RESOLUTION Using the Betty T. Ferguson Complex to host a Job Fair
1515 NW 167 Street, Building 5 Suite 200 Miami Gardens, Florida 33169 Current Situation: The FSS program seeks to host the job fair at the Betty T. Ferguson Community Center because
of its capacity and easy access to public transportation. The job fair is to be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2010 (specific time details to follow). Approximately 25 employers will be
present and will set up booths in order to conduct interviews for potential employment for FSS program participants. The proposed space at the Community Center to host this event is
the auditorium. The normal rental fee for the use of the auditorium is $720 ($90 per hour x 8 hours [estimated]). The Community Center schedule has been verified and is available on
this date. Councilman Oliver G. Gilbert has requested that the City Council waive the fee rental for the Community Center. Proposed Action: Councilman Gilbert recommends that the City
Council approve the use of the Betty T. Ferguson Community Center auditorium to host a job fair for FSS Program participants on Tuesday, March 19, 2011, and to waive the normal rental
fees for the use of this space. Attachment: None
