A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM
COUNCILMAN STEPHENS’ SPECIAL EVENTS/ PUBLIC
AFFAIRS ACCOUNT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED ONE
THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($1,500) IN SUPPORT
OF THE FLORIDA FREEDOM WRITERS FOUNDATION AND
NATIONWIDE YOUTH OUTREACH; PROVIDING FOR
INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CITY CLERK; PROVIDING FOR THE
ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Florida Freedom Writers Foundation strives to keep children away
from gangs, guns, and negativity, while creating a space for talented, young writers to
speak out on issues that impact their communities, and
WHEREAS, The Florida Freedom Writers have worked with United States
Attorney’s Office, the Juvenile Justice System and several other entities to hold
performances and workshops for schools, colleges and various educational and
charitable organizations throughout Florida and in parts of Georgia and Chicago, and
WHEREAS, Nationwide Youth Outreach, Inc is having a “UNITY IN THE
COMMUNITY: A FIGHT AGAINST GUN VIOLENCE” event to bring together community
leaders, concerned citizens, law enforcement agencies, and various organizations to
foster open dialogue, share insights, and initiate positive change, and
WHEREAS, this event will include influential community leaders, a panel
discussion addressing the root cause of gun violence and exploring prevention strategies,
resource fair and an opportunity for attendees, including youth in the community to
connect, network, and build strong partnerships in our collective effort to curb gun
violence, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Robert Stephens is requesting funds from his Special
Events/ Public Affairs account in the amount of $1,500 to support the Florida Freedom
Writers Foundation and Nationwide Youth Outreach, Inc.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the allocation in the amount not to exceed One Thousand Five

Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) from the Seat 6 Special Events/Public Affairs Account to
support the Florida Freedom Writers and Nationwide Youth Outreach, Inc.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JUNE 14, 2023.
