OF MIAMI GARDENS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DISPOSE OF VEHICLE 73028 THROUGH PUBLIC AUCTION; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE Staff Summary:
Background Police Patrol Unit 73028 was involved in a motor vehicle collision resulting in extensive structural damage to the front frame assembly on August 19, 2009. Repairs would require
sectioning both left and right frame rails. Until the repairs are completed and the vehicle road tested, it cannot be determined if there is any additional damage to the engine or transmission.
The Fleet Department is of the opinion that even if repaired, a vehicle with a sectioned frame assembly would not be suitable state for operation as a Police Patrol unit. Current Situation
The City’s Insurance provider, Florida Municipal Insurance Trust‐thru their contracted appraiser, Crawford & Company, appraised the damage at $12,311. Despite the appeal of the Fleet
Department, they request that the City repair the unit and return it to service. The Fleet Department however, recommends that the City accept the appraisal damage amount and dispose
of the vehicle at auction as salvage. ITEM J-8) CONSENT AGENDA RESOLUTION Dispose of a City Vehicle via Public Auction
