A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE RENAMING
OF NW 24TH AVENUE, BETWEEN NW 183RD STREET AND
NW 191ST TERRACE AS “DELTA SIGMA THETA WAY”;
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO CHANGE THE
STREET SIGNAGE; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, chartered in 1941, the Miami Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Incorporated has celebrated more than 80 years of service and sisterhood, and
WHEREAS, through its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust, the Sorority implements
numerous community initiatives, and
WHEREAS, its focus on Economic Development, Educational Development,
International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political
Awareness and Involvement is a testament to its unwavering commitment to these crucial
areas, and
WHEREAS, Section 34-233 of the City of Miami Gardens Code of Ordinance
outlines the process for renaming and co-designating streets, and
WHEREAS, Section 44-233(b)(10) provides guidance for the Mayor and members
of the City Council to sponsor a Resolution for the renaming or codesignation of a street,
and
WHEREAS, Councilman Leon seeks to honor the Sorority's rich history and strong
legacy by officially recognizing and dedicating NW 24th Avenue, between NW 183rd
Street and NW 191st Terrace, as “Delta Sigma Theta Way” and directing the City
Manager to take all steps necessary to change the street signage for this purpose,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the renaming of NW 24th Avenue, between NW 183rd Street and NW
191st Terrace as “Delta Sigma Theta Way”. The City Council authorizes the City Manager
to change the street signage.

Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON APRIL 24, 2024.
