HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-080-2154_-_Supporting_King_Carter_Foundation_Summer_Program_-_Adopted.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2024-080-2154 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS N THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($10,000) FROM COUNCILMAN REGGIE LEON'S COMMUNITY BENEFIT ACCOUNT IN SUPPORT OF THE KING CARTER YOUTH FOUNDATION'S SUMMER NIGHT CAMP PROGRAM, PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the King Carter Youth Foundation is a Miami-based non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of youth throughout Florida, and WHEREAS, the motivation behind the start of this foundation is in honor of the founders’ late son, six-year-old King Carter, who was killed in the middle of a senseless gunfight while walking to the store near his home to buy candy, and WHEREAS, as Miami natives, they understand the challenges that many children face including lack of support, guidance, and an absence of resources and direction; because of this, they are able to provide the support, care, compassion, and resources to those who need it the most, and WHEREAS, in the summer of 2024, Councilman Reggie Leon is partnering with The King Carter Foundation to implement a six-week night summer night camp program. The goal is to keep children off the streets and prevent any possibilities of gun violence in the community, and WHEREAS, the summer program is open all Miami Gardens students between the ages of twelve and eighteen (12yrs – 18yrs). The activities will focus primarily on teaching the student participants on brand creation: how to produce and advertise various clothing items based on their own ideas, and WHEREAS, Councilman Leon believes in cultivating business development principals for the youth in the City of Miami Gardens and desires to support The King Carter Foundation’s community youth initiative, and WHEREAS, Councilman Leon is requesting the allocation of an amount not to exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000) from his Seat 2 Community Benefit account in support of The King Carter Youth Foundation, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: DocuSign Envelope ID: 1E36E065-F8E9-4857-A154-E2DF774B14F3 Page 2 of 2 Resolution No. 2024-080-2154 Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby support allocation of funds from Councilman Reggie Leon’s Community Benefit account (116-19-01-519-492-02) in the amount not to exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000) in the support of The King Carter Youth Foundation. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
