HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-092-2166_-_Supporting_8th_Annual_HBCU_Picnic_-_Pending.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2024-092-2166 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE BLACK COLLEGE EXPERIENCE, INC’S 8TH ANNUAL SOUTH FLORIDA HBCU PICNIC TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY, JULY 13, 2024; WAIVING THE COST ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF THE SHOWMOBILE AND AUTHORIZING IN-KIND POLICE SERVICES IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($7,000) FROM THE GENERAL FUNDS ACCOUNT FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the South Florida HBCU picnic is a family-oriented community event geared at educating students about the options of attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) as well as connecting HBCU alumni, Black alumni of other institutes, current students and friends, and WHEREAS, this annual event also unites the HBCU family to raise funds to provide scholarships to students from South Florida attending HBCUs nationwide, and WHEREAS, the picnic is open to everyone who wants to support and celebrate the legacy of HBCUs, and WHEREAS, Councilman Reggie Leon has been an avid supporter of this annual event and would like to sponsor the use of the show-mobile and in-kind service of the MGPD in support of the Black College Experience, Inc. 8th annual South Florida HBCU Picnic, and WHEREAS, Councilman Leon is requesting that the City of Miami Gardens waive the fees associated with the utilization of the showmobile and provide in-kind Police Services, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby waives the fees associated with the utilization of the showmobile and authorize in-kind police services in the amount not to exceed seven thousand dollars ($7,000) from the general funds account of the Miami Gardens Police Department.
