HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-098-2172_-_Supporting_NAREB_for_National_Homeownership_Month_-_Adopted.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2024-098-2172 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM COUNCILWOMAN LINDA JULIEN'S COMMUNITY BENEFIT ACCOUNT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($10,000.00), FOR THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REAL ESTATE BROKERS (NAREB) FOR NATIONAL HOMEOWNERSHIP MONTH; PROVIDING FOR ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, June signifies National Homeownership Month, celebrating homeownership as the cornerstone of the American Dream and a fundamental part of the prosperity, stability, and growth of our communities, and WHEREAS, the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) aims to enhance the buying power of minorities in the communities they serve, and WHEREAS, the demographic composition of Miami Gardens stands to significantly benefit from the specialized services provided by NAREB, and WHEREAS, In honor of National Homeownership Month, Councilwoman Linda Julien’s allocation of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) from Seat 5 Community Benefit Account (116-19-01-519-492-05) is intended to assist two first-time homebuyers to acquire a home within Miami Gardens, and WHEREAS, these funds will specifically be allocated to cover closing costs for two homeowners, up to five thousand dollars ($5000.00) per homeowner, and WHEREAS, the beneficiaries of these funds must purchase a home within Miami Gardens by September 30, 2024 and the home must be designated as the homeowner’s primary residence within 30 days of purchase, and WHEREAS, NAREB is required to provide the full name, address, and phone number of each homeowner to the City of Miami Gardens prior to the completion of the home purchase, and WHEREAS, should a homeowner fail to comply with the primary residence requirement, a lien of $5000.00 shall be placed on the property, and WHEREAS, Councilwoman Linda Julien proposes an allocation of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) from her Seat 5 Community Benefit Account (116-19-01-519-492- 05) to support the National Association of Real Estate Brokers in this endeavor, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Docusign Envelope ID: AC1773EC-E595-4B76-A6D0-00670C783D7A Page 2 of 2 Resolution No. 2024-098-2172 Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby supports allocation of funds from Councilwoman Julien’s Community Benefit Account (116-19-01-519-492-05) in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) to the National Association of Real Estate Brokers. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
