HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-114-2188_-_3RD_Annual_Jamaican_Pre-Independence_Soccer_Tournament_-_Pending.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2024-114-2188 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, WAIVING ALL FEES ASSOCIATED WITH THE USAGE OF MYRTLE GROVE PARK, THE SHOWMOBILE; AND STAFF TO HOST THE 3RD ANNUAL JAMAICAN PRE-INDEPENDENCE DAY AMATEUR SOCCER TOURNAMENT. AUTHORIZING IN-KIND SUPPORT FOR THE EVENT IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000) FROM VICE MAYOR KATRINA WILSON’S FORMULA ONE COMMUNITY BENEFIT ACCOUNT TO COVER COST ENTERTAINMENT, UNIFORMS, FOOD, AWARADS AND OTHER SUNDRY ITEMS; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, For more than three decades each Sunday at Myrtle Grove Park, residents, their families, and a diverse array of soccer enthusiasts gather for a day of fitness, camaraderie, and fellowship, all centered around a love for the game, and WHEREAS, Soccer captivates millions with its exhilarating action, skillful displays, and unifying spirit. At its core, soccer is a game of teamwork, strategy, and athleticism, particularly popular in Europe, Africa, Central and South America. Its influence and popularity are also growing in North America and Asia, and WHEREAS, Vice Mayor is requesting the City Council waive all fees associated with the usage of Myrtle Grove Park, the showmobile and staff. In addition, not to exceed $5,000 from her Formula One Community Benefit Account (116-19-01-519-492-04) to support the 3rd Annual Jamaican Pre-Independence Day Amateur Soccer Tournament, and WHEREAS, Vice Mayor Wilson recommends that the City Council approve this resolution, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: It is recommended that Council approve this Resolution. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
