A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM
COUNCILWOMAN LINDA JULIEN'S COMMUNITY BENEFIT
ACCOUNT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED SEVEN
HUNDRED DOLLARS ($700), FOR THE HISPANIC HERITAGE
ESSAY CONTEST; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month provides an opportunity to recognize and
celebrate the significant contributions of Hispanic culture to American life, and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest is to
encourage students to explore and articulate how Hispanic culture has influenced various
aspects of American society, including music, food, language, and fashion, and
WHEREAS, to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, Councilwoman Linda
Julien is sponsoring a Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest which provides a one-time
award to three eligible students residing in City of Miami Gardens, in the amounts of three
hundred dollars ($300) for the first place winner, two hundred dollars ($200) for
the second place winner, and one hundred dollars ($100) for the third place winner,
and
WHEREAS, the contest will be open to all Miami Gardens students who meet the
eligibility criteria and submit their essays by the specified deadline and will be judged
based on creativity, relevance to the topic, and clarity of writing, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Julien is requesting an allocation of seven hundred
dollars ($700) from the Seat 5 Community Benefit account (116-19-01-519-492-05) for
the Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby support allocation of funds from Councilwoman Julien’s Community Benefit
Account in the amount of seven hundred dollars ($700) for the Hispanic Heritage Essay
Contest.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
