HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-146-2220_-_US_Department_of_Energy_Grant_-_Adopted.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2024-146-2220 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE US DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY, ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND CONSERVATION BLOCK GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-FIVE THOUSAND, TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS ($155,250.00) FOR THE PROCUREMENT OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS AND ELECTRIC VEHICLES WITH ANY REMAINING FUNDS; A COPY OF THE EECBG REBATE VOUCHER APPROVAL NOTIFICATION IS ATTACHED AS EXHIBIT “A”; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ANY AND ALL AGREEMENT AND CONTRACT DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE GRANT; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN AFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, in pursuance of the City of Miami Garden's efforts to increase and encourage the use of clean energy in the City, staff submitted an application to the U.S. Department of Energy under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program Equipment Rebate Voucher Program for funding to procure electric vehicle charging stations, and WHEREAS, the EECBG Program is designed to assist states, local governments, and Tribes in implementing strategies to reduce energy use, to reduce fossil fuel emissions, and to improve energy efficiency, and WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Energy approved the City's application and provided funding of up to One Hundred and Fifty-Five Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($155,250.00), a copy of the EECBG Rebate Voucher approval notification is attached as Exhibit “A”, and WHEREAS, the funds will be utilized to purchase and install Level 2 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations in the City's garage to replace the existing Level 1 charging stations, and WHEREAS, this will equip a total of twelve (12) parking spaces for charging of electric vehicles, and WHEREAS, the charging stations will be available for use by staff for charging personal and City electric fleet, and WHEREAS, upon notification of approval of the application by U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE), staff determined that the approved amount would be sufficient to cover the cost of the charging stations with the potential of a significant unused amount, and Docusign Envelope ID: ED4BC097-C051-4C9B-9A5B-07F65B3BAFDD Page 2 of 3 Resolution No. 2024-146-2220 WHEREAS, in order to maximize the use of the approved funds, staff requested approval from USDOE to utilize any leftover funds for the purchase of electric vehicle(s) for use by staff, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby accepts the US Department of Energy, Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant in the amount of One Hundred and Fifty-Five Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($155,250.00) for the Procurement of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations and Electric Vehicles with any remaining funds. The City Council further authorizes the City Manager to execute any and all agreement and contract documents required for implementation of the grant. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
