WHEREAS, The Pink Parade will be a meaningful event aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer, celebrating the strength of survivors, and honoring the individuals who have lost their lives to the disease. Additionally, the event will recognize and honor the families, friends, and caregivers who have provided unwavering support to those affected by breast cancer, and WHEREAS, Councilwoman Katrina Baskin knows breast cancer awareness is crucial because it promotes early detection, education, and support for those affected by the disease. Early diagnosis through awareness initiatives can lead to earlier treatment, significantly improving survival rates. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, and raising awareness helps dispel myths, encourage regular screenings, and inform people about the signs and risk factors, and WHEREAS, Moreover, breast cancer awareness fosters community support, reduces stigma, and empowers survivors and their families. It also encourages funding for research, which is essential for advancing treatments and ultimately finding a cure. WHEREAS, Councilwoman Baskin is requesting an amount not to exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000) from Residential Seat 1 Community Benefit account to support the Pink Parade Breast Cancer event. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby allocates funds from Seat 1 Community Benefit account for ten thousand dollars ($10,000), to support the Pink Parade Breast Cancer event. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
