HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-218-2292_-_Broadway_in_the_Gardens_-_Adopted.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2024-218-2292 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TWO THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED THIRTY- THREE DOLLARS ($2,433) FROM RESIDENTIAL SEAT 1 COMMUNITY BENEFIT ACCOUNT FOR THE DEPOSIT FOR THE LOU RAWLS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER TO HOST BROADWAY IN THE GARDENS ON FEBRUARY 21,2025; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Broadway in the Gardens is a cultural event celebrating Black excellence in theater and performing arts. Spearheaded by Councilwoman Katrina L. Baskin, this initiative will feature performances by culturally diverse companies, local artists, and youth performers, fostering community engagement and appreciation for the arts. In partnership with Florida Memorial University, South Florida’s only HBCU, the event emphasizes the city’s commitment to cultural enrichment, and WHEREAS, Broadway in the Gardens is uniquely positioned to be a marquee cultural event, showcasing Miami Gardens as a hub for arts and entertainment. By supporting this initiative, the city council reinforces its dedication to offering high-quality, inclusive cultural programming that inspires community pride and fosters connection among the resident , and WHEREAS, Councilwoman Katrina Baskin is requesting $2,433 from Residential Seat 1 Community Benefit Account to cover the deposit for the Lou Rawls Performing Arts Center. This funding will secure the venue for the event, which aims to attract both residents and visitors while promoting the arts within Miami Gardens, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby allocates funds from Seat 1 Community Benefit account for two thousand four hundred thirty-three dollars ($2,433), for the deposit for the Lou Rawls Performing Arts Center to host Broadway in the Gardens. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
