HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-006-2308_-_Bessie_Stringfield_Way_-_Adopted.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2025-006-2308 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE APPLICATION SUBMITTED BY SUNSHINE DIVAS IN MOTION EXCELLING, INC ATTACHED HERETO AS EXHIBIT “A”, FOR THE CO- DESIGNATION OF NW 152ND TERRACE, FROM NW 22ND AVENUE TO NW 27TH AVENUE AS “BESSIE STRINGFIELD WAY”; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO CHANGE THE STREET SIGNAGE UPON THE PAYMENT OF FEES BY THE APPLICANT; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Mrs. Bessie Stringfield, often called the “Motorcycle Queen of Miami” was a pioneering African American motorcyclist who broke barriers during a time of profound racial and gender inequality, and WHEREAS, Mrs. Stringfield was a longtime resident of the Bunche Park area in Miami Gardens, and WHEREAS, during World War II, Bessie Stringfield worked for the U.S. Army as a civilian motorcycle dispatch rider, and WHEREAS, in 1990 when the American Motorcycle Association (AMA) opened the first Motorcycle Heritage Museum in Pickerington, Ohio, Mrs. Stringfield was featured in its inaugural exhibit on Women in Motorcycling, and WHEREAS, in 2002 she was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, and WHEREAS, Sunshine Divas in Motion Excelling, Inc filed an application for the for the co-designation, and WHEREAS, Councilwoman Powell seeks to honor Mrs. Bessie Stringfield’s history and strong legacy by officially recognizing and dedicating NW 152nd Terrace, from NW 22nd Avenue to NW 27th Avenue, as “Bessie Stringfield Way”, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby approves the application submitted by Sunshine Divas in Motion Excelling, Inc attached hereto as Exhibit “A”, for the co-designation of NW 152nd Terrace, from NW Docusign Envelope ID: 11D9A29F-4D9B-4961-B1B7-8A2B1A914EC6 Page 2 of 2 Resolution No. 2025-006-2308 22nd Avenue to NW 27th Avenue as “Bessie Stringfield Way”. The City Council further directs the City Manager to change the street signage upon the payment of fees by the applicant. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
