A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE SERVICES
OF THREE (3) MIAMI GARDENS POLICE DEPARTMENT
OFFICERS and paying associated staffing costs from the
COMMUNITY BENEFIT account IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED FIFTY THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED SEVENTY-FOUR
DOLLARS ($50,274) in support of THE DISTRICT 1 SPRING
BREAK CIVIL RIGHTS TOUR; PROVIDING FOR THE
ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, District 1 will host the Spring Break Expedition: Civil Rights Tour for
local high school students from Sunday, March 23, to Saturday, March 29, 2025, and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the annual expedition program is to broaden the
horizons of our local youth and widen their knowledge base and understanding of the
world around us, and
WHEREAS, this program will include visits to Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia,
a few of the states that form part of the U.S. Civil Rights Trail, and
WHEREAS, students will have the opportunity to step back in time and see first-
hand historical sites that were part of a movement that forever shaped the future of our
social justice, and
WHEREAS, Vice Mayor Robert Stephens, III is requesting the services of three (3)
Miami Gardens Police Department officers to accompany District 1 and local students
from Miami Gardens on their Civil Rights Tour and paying associated staffing costs from
the Community Benefit Account in an amount not to exceed fifty thousand two hundred
seventy-four ($50,274) in support of the District 1 Spring Break Civil Rights Tour,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the services of three (3) Miami Gardens Police officers to accompany
District 1 and local students from Miami Gardens on their Civil Rights Tour and paying
associated staffing costs from the Community Benefit Account in an amount not to exceed
fifty thousand two hundred seventy-four ($50,274) in support of the District 1 Spring Break
Civil Rights Tour.

Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS
AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 22, 2025.
