HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-018-2320_-_Recognizing_Flora_Johnson_and_Fannie_M._Gilbert_-_Adopted.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2025-018-2320 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION NOT TO EXCEED SIX THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-THREE DOLLARS AND SEVENTY CENTS ($6,483.70) FROM MAYOR RODNEY HARRIS' COMMUNITY BENEFIT ACCOUNT FOR SPONSORSHIP OF TWO PLAQUES FOR CITY OF MIAMI GARDEN'S RESIDENTS THE LATE FLORA BELLE MATCHETT JOHNSON AND FANNIE MAE GILBERT. THE PLAQUES WILL BE UNVEILED IN THEIR HONOR IN MARCH 2025 FOR WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH. PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Mayor Rodney Harris is requesting an allocation from his community benefit account in the amount not to exceed Six Thousand Four Hundred and Eighty- Three Dollars and Seventy Cents ($6,483.70), and WHEREAS, this request is for the purchase of two plaques that will be in honor of two Miami Gardens residents the late Flora Belle Matchett Johnson and Fannie Mae Gilbert, though they are no longer with us, their impact and service to our community lives on, and WHEREAS, Flora Belle Matchett Johnson, founder of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Association (GRGA), dedicated her life to serving others, her legacy of advocacy and support for youth, seniors and veterans, and WHEREAS, Flora was a long-time resident of the Bunche Park area in the City of Miami Gardens, however, her service to the community spanned the entire city, and WHEREAS, Fannie Mae Gilbert was a long-time resident of the Rolling Oaks/Crestview community here in the City of Miami Gardens, she was a community activist who embraced the quest for excellence in her community, and WHEREAS, Fannie was a woman of passion, grace, and a caring spirit who cared about her community, and was a strong voice of reason and advocacy for youth and seniors, her unwavering service and advocacy also spanned the entire city, and WHEREAS, Mayor Rodney Harris would like to honor these two phenomenal women for their service and impact during the month of March 2025 for Women's History Month. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Docusign Envelope ID: 2AD1C2BF-44A7-4B17-933C-5A481079A144 Page 2 of 2 Resolution No. 2025-018-2320 Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby authorize allocating Six Thousand Four Hundred and Eighty-Three Dollars and Seventy Cents ($6,483.70) from Mayor Rodney Harris’ community benefit account for the purchase of two plaques to honor the late Flora Belle Matchett Johnson and Fannie Mae Gilbert. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
