HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-065-2367_-_State_Senator_Oscar_Braynon_II_Park_at_Rolling_Oaks_-_Adopted.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2025-065-2367 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE RENAMING OF ROLLING OAKS PARK TO “STATE SENATOR OSCAR BRAYNON ll PARK AT ROLLING OAKS”; PROVIDING FOR ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Oscar Braynon II is a lifelong public servant and native of the City of Miami Gardens. A proud product of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Braynon rose from local beginnings to become one of Florida’s most influential legislative leaders, and WHEREAS, Senator Braynon, before his time in the Florida Legislature was elected in 2003 as the youngest elected official at the age of 26 in Miami-Dade County to the inaugural City Council for the City of Miami Gardens, and WHEREAS, Senator Braynon continued to serve the residents of Miami Gardens and all Floridians when he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives (2008– 2011) and subsequently in the Florida Senate (2011–2020), where he represented various districts including northern Miami-Dade and southern Broward counties. He held key leadership positions such as Minority Leader of the Senate (2016–2018) and was widely respected for his advocacy on education, public safety, economic opportunity, and healthcare access, and WHEREAS, Senator Braynon, along with his mother and father, has resided in the Rolling Oaks Subdivision of Miami Gardens and continues to reside there to this day, demonstrating a lasting and personal connection to the community, and WHEREAS, Senator Braynon continues to be an consistent supporter of youth programs and community initiatives in Miami Gardens such as the 5000 Role Models of Excellence, youth basketball tournaments, and economic development projects, and WHEREAS, during his time in and out of public office, Senator Braynon has always been a statesman that has led with passion, care, dedication, and service to all, and WHEREAS, it is recommended that the City Council authorize the approval of the request to rename Rolling Oaks Park to “State Senator Oscar Braynon II Park at Rolling Oaks”, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
