A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE RENAMING
OF NW 12TH AVENUE, BETWEEN NW 184TH DRIVE AND
189TH TERRACE, AS “THE LINKS, INCORPORATED WAY”;
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO CHANGE THE
STREET SIGNAGE; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Councilman Reggie Leon, wishes to rename NW 12th Avenue,
between 184th Drive and 189th Terrace, as The Links, Incorporated Way, in recognition
of the many accomplishments of The Links, Incorporated, and
WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation,
established in 1946 by Margaret Rosell Hawkins and Sarah Strickland Scott, and
WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated was founded on the core values of friendship,
integrity, honesty, service, commitment, family relationships, courage, respect for self and
others, legacy, confidentiality, responsibility, and accountability, and
WHEREAS, the membership of The Links, Incorporated consists of more than
17,000 professional women in 299 Chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia,
the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and the United Kingdom, and is one of the Nation’s
oldest and largest volunteer service organizations, and
WHEREAS, Links members contribute more than 1 million documented hours of
community service annually – strengthening their communities and enhancing the nation
and is the recipient of awards from the UN Association of New York and the Leon H.
Sullivan Foundation for its premier programs, and
WHEREAS, in 2019, The Links, Incorporated was nominated for a Luxembourg
Peace Prize by the Schengen Peace Foundation and recognized by the late
Congressman John Lewis as a distinguished organization of outstanding community
service and influence, and
WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated service is programmed through five facets -
Services to Youth, The Arts, National Trends and Services, International Trends and
Services, and Health and Human Services; through, the five facets, the Links,
Incorporated implements programs and initiatives that address the most critical needs of
underserved communities; and annually, the Links impact the lives of more than 3 million
people at home and abroad, and
WHEREAS, the members of The Links, Incorporated are influential decision
makers and opinion leaders; they are business and civic leaders, role models, mentors,
activists and volunteers who work toward a common vision by engaging like-minded

organizations and individuals, including the former Vice President of the United States,
Kamala Harris, U.S. Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, Florida State Representative and
former City of Miami Gardens Councilwoman Felicia Robinson, and City of Miami
Gardens very own Councilwoman Linda Julien, and
WHEREAS, Section 34-233 of the City of Miami Gardens Code of Ordinance
outlines the process for renaming and co-designating streets, and
WHEREAS, as a lasting tribute to contributions and accomplishments of The Links,
Incorporated, Councilman Reggie Leon seeks to dedicate NW 12th Avenue, between
184th Drive and 189th Terrace, as "The Links, Incorporated Way",
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the renaming of NW 12th Avenue, between 184th Drive and 189th
Terrace as “The Links, Incorporated Way.” The City Council further directs the City
Manager to change the street signage.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS
AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON MAY 28, 2025.
