A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE USE OF THE
CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS AND COMMUNITY ROOM FOR A
PRESS CONFERENCE TO BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY,
MARCH 25, 2026 REGARDING THE ORANGE BLOSSOM
CLASSIC; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS Established in 1933, the Orange Blossom Classic originated as a
collegiate football game showcasing Historically Black Colleges and Universities
(HBCUs), beginning with a matchup between Florida A&M University and Howard
University in Jacksonville, Florida, and
WHEREAS, Over the following decades, the Classic evolved into a nationally
recognized event and served as a cornerstone postseason competition for HBCUs
through the late 1970s, and
WHEREAS, the Orange Blossom Classic was reintroduced in 2021 with the intent
of celebrating and amplifying the legacy and contributions of HBCUs within the City of
Miami Gardens; the event is anticipated to draw a significant number of attendees,
including alumni, students, families, and supporters, while underscoring the academic,
cultural, and leadership impact of HBCUs, and
WHEREAS, As part of the event’s programming, the Orange Blossom Classic
Press Conference is proposed to be held in the City of Miami Gardens Council Chambers.
Councilman Leon intends to further promote the event while strengthening the City’s
partnership with the Orange Blossom Classic, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorize the use of the council chambers and community room for the Orange
Blossom Classic Press Conference on Wednesday, March 25, 2025.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 28, 2026.
