A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THAT CERTAIN
GRANT AWARD FROM THE SLOANE STEPHENS
FOUNDATION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE
ANY AND ALL STEPS NECESSARY TO ACCEPT GRANT
FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY-SEVEN
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($187,000); PROVIDING FOR THE
ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, in April 2014, the City of Miami Gardens residents approved a General
Obligation Bond (GOB) in the amount of Sixty Million Dollars ($60,000,000) for the
construction of and improvements to the City’s parks and related facilities, and
WHEREAS, City Council adopted a Bond Implementation Plan that listed
improvements to be incorporated into each park project which included the renovation of
Buccaneer Park, which was completed in 2018, and
WHEREAS, as a part of the scope of work, the tennis courts were resurfaced and
not rebuilt, and
WHEREAS, since 2018, the concrete slab of the tennis courts have developed
structural deficiencies, and require a complete rebuild, and
WHEREAS, with that stated, the City was awarded a grant of One Hundred Eight-
Seven Thousand Dollars ($187,000.00) from the Sloane Stephens Foundation to rebuild
the tennis courts at Buccaneer Park, and
WHEREAS, this resolution is to accept the award and authorizing the City Manager
to execute any and all agreements as a result of this grant,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby accepts that certain grant award from The Sloane Stephens Foundation. The City
Council further authorizes the City Manager to take any and all steps necessary to accept
grant funds in the amount of One Hundred Eighty-Seven Thousand Dollars ($187,000).

Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
