Staff Summary: The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (N BCAM) is a collaboratio n of national public service organizations, professional medical associations, and government agencies working together to promote breast canc er awareness, share informati on on the disease, and provide greater access to services. 1515 NW 167 Street, Building 5 Suite 200 Miami Gardens, Florida 33169 Since its inception more than 25 years ago, NBCAM has been at the forefront of promoting awareness of breast cancer iss ues and has evolved along with the national di alogue on breast cancer. NBCAM and Councilwom an Felicia Robinson recogniz e that, although many great strides have been made in breast cancer awarene ss and treatment, there remains much to be accomplished. Both remain dedicated to educ ating and empowering women and men to take charge of their own breast health. In recognition of October as National Br east Cancer Awareness Month, Councilwoman Robinson recommends that th e City implement a Miami Ga rdens Pink Week. Proposed activities include: October 27 - Walk / Health Fair October 28 – Pink Tea October 29 – Carninal & Breast Prosthesis October 30 – Senior & Male Awareness October 31 – Pink Costume party November 1 – Healthy Happy Hour November 2 – Pink & Black Ball November 3 – Pink Gospel Explosion The costs associated with implem enting Miami Gardens Pink Week are expected to be minimal, as sponsors will be secured. Proposed Action: Councilwoman Felicia Robinson recommends that the City Council adopt this Resolution recognizing October Breast Canc er Awareness Month in the Cit y of Miami Gardens, and to implement Miami Gardens Pink Week.
