HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026-038-2495_-_Adoption_of_Miami-Dade_Local_Mitigation_Strategy_-_Adopted.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2026-038-2495 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADOPT MIAMI-DADE COUNTY’S LOCAL MITIGATION STRATEGY (LMS) TO SUPPORT REGIONAL HAZARD MITIGATION, EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS, FUNDING ELIGIBILITY, AND COMMUNITY RESILIENCE; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens coordinates the City’s Emergency Response Plan with Miami-Dade County and the State of Florida to address hazard mitigation and disaster-preparedness for the safety of residents and property in Miami Gardens, and WHEREAS, in accordance, the City is required to adopt, by resolution, Miami- Dade County’s Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) to ensure alignment with the County’s overall emergency management plan, strategy, and response to ensure long-term resilience, and WHEREAS, by aligning with the countywide strategy, the City becomes part of a coordinated, regional approach to identifying risks, reducing vulnerabilities, and preparing for natural and man-made hazards, and WHEREAS, adopting the LMS demonstrates a proactive commitment to public safety, fiscal responsibility, and sustainable community planning, and WHEREAS, participation in the LMS is often a requirement for eligibility for state and federal mitigation funding, including grants that support infrastructure hardening, flood prevention and disaster recovery projects, and WHEREAS, in addition to adopting the LMS, the City has scheduled its annual emergency management simulated tabletop exercises for April 14 – 15, 2026, to ensure staff are prepared for upcoming large-scale events and hurricane season, and WHEREAS, it helps the City not only respond to emergencies more effectively but also reduce their impact before they occur, creating a safer and more resilient community for all residents, and WHEREAS, Staff recommends that the City Council approve the Adoption of the Miami-Dade Local Mitigation Strategy, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Docusign Envelope ID: 6C4229C8-AB00-8739-8105-0A44681CFDB2 Page 2 of 2 Resolution No. 2026-038-2495 Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby authorizes the City Manager to adopt Miami-Dade County’s Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) to support regional hazard mitigation, emergency preparedness, funding eligibility, and community resilience. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
