A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE USE OF THE
BETTY T. FERGUSON RECREATIONAL COMPLEX FOR THE
ORANGE BOWL BLOSSOM CLASSIC CAREER RECRUITMENT
FAIR TAKING PLACE TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1,2026 AND THE
CHEER CLINIC/FAMILY FRIENDS EVENT TAKING PLACE
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2026; AUTHORIZING SUPPORT
FOR THE EVENTS IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $6,000
FROM THE ORANGE BLOSSOM CLASSIC GENERAL FUND
ACCOUNT; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, The Orange Blossom Classic was founded in 1933 and welcomed
2,000 fans to the “blacks-only” ballpark in Jacksonville, Florida, where FAMU beat
Howard 9-0, helping establish the foundation of Historically Black Colleges & Universities
(HBCU) classics, and
WHEREAS, from 1933 to 1978, the Orange Blossom Classic reigned supreme as
the postseason’s premier HBCU classic event, and
WHEREAS, the Orange Blossom Classic has been re-established to enhance
Historically Black Colleges and Universities’ exposure in the enriched community of Miami
Gardens, and
WHEREAS, the Orange Blossom Classic, in partnership with its community
stakeholders, will host an Orange Blossom Classic Career Recruitment Fair at the Betty
T. Ferguson Recreational Complex on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and a Cheer
Clinic/Family & Friends Event on Saturday, September 5, 2026, providing opportunities
for workforce development, youth engagement, and community participation in
connection with the Orange Blossom Classic festivities, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Reggie Leon recommends the City Council approve
support for the Orange Blossom Classic Career Recruitment Fair and the Cheer
Clinic/Family & Friends Event, including the use of City facilities and the provision of
municipal resources, staffing, and other support services necessary to assist with the
successful hosting of these community events in the amount of Six Thousand dollars
($6,000.00),
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.

Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes support for the Orange Blossom Classic Career Recruitment Fair and
the Cheer Clinic/Family & Friends Event, including the use of City facilities and the
provision of municipal resources, staffing, and other support services necessary to assist
in the successful hosting of these community events, in the amount of six thousand dollars
($6,000.00) for the Orange Blossom Classic line item account #001-12-03-512-492-28.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JULY 22, 2026.
