A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE RENAMING
OF MIAMI GARDENS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER TO
“OLIVER G. GILBERT PERFORMING ARTS CENTER”;
PROVIDING FOR ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS;
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Oliver G. Gilbert, III has dedicated
his career to public service and the advancement of the Miami Gardens community, and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Gilbert served with distinction as a member of the
Miami Gardens City Council and subsequently as Mayor of the City of Miami Gardens,
providing leadership during the City's formative years and helping establish a foundation
for its continued growth and success, and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Gilbert was elected to the Miami-Dade County
Commission, where he has continued to advocate for initiatives that enhance the quality
of life for residents of Miami Gardens and Miami-Dade County, including serving as
Chairman of the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners, and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Gilbert has demonstrated steadfast legislative
leadership and advocacy in securing Miami-Dade County's financial commitment of
approximately Thirty-Three Million Dollars ($33,000,000) toward the planning and
development of the Miami Gardens Performing Arts Center, recognizing the
transformative impact the facility will have on arts, culture, education, tourism, and
economic development within the City, and
WHEREAS, Mayor Rodney Harris recommends that the planned Miami Gardens
Performing Arts Center be named the Oliver G. Gilbert Performing Arts Center, and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that naming the planned Miami Gardens
Performing Arts Center in honor of Commissioner Oliver G. Gilbert, III is a fitting and
appropriate recognition of his distinguished public service and his significant contributions
toward the realization of this transformative community asset.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.

Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the naming of the planned Miami Gardens Performing Arts Center as
the Oliver G. Gilbert Performing Arts Center.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JULY 22, 2026.
