Crew, City Manager Department: Public Works Short Title: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AWARDING A BID TO SANCHEZ ARANGO CONSTRUCTION CO., FOR BUS SHELTER MAINTENANCE; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TWO HUNDRED SEVEN THOUSAND, THREE HUNDRED SEVENTY DOLLARS ($207,370.00) FOR THIS PURPOSE; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. Staff Summary: Background The City of Miami Gardens anticipates receiving approximately $750,000 from the People’s Transportation Plan sales surtax during the current fiscal year for transit related activities, which includes bus stops infrastructure maintenance. The maintenance activities under this proposed contract includes all needed repairs and cleaning of bus shelters (117), bus benches (325), and trash receptacles (450). Current Situation
1515 NW 167 Street, Building 5 Suite 200 Miami Gardens, Florida 33169 City staff prepared specifications and advertised ITB#12 ‐13 ‐006 Bus Shelter Maintenance on December 20, 2012. A broadcast notice was sent to 266 vendors; thirteen (13) bid packages were requested. The bids were opened on January 10, 2013. Four (4) bids were received and publicity read at that time. Staff evaluated the bids for compliance with the specifications, and their ability to perform the work. The appreant low bidder is Sanchez Arango Construction Co. of Miami, Florida. All of the references were favorable, finances are in order, and insurance is sufficient. It is noted that the recommended bidder will not require any additional employees for this project. Proposed Action: It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a contract with Sanchez Arango Construction Co. to perform bus shelter maintenance for an amount not to exceed $207,370.
