Short Title:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS, FLORIDA, CREATING THE MIAMI GARDENS LADIES OF
VIRTUE (“LOV”) MENTORING PROGRAM; AUTHORIZING AN
ALLOCATION OF TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS ($2000.00) FROM THE
CAPITAL RESERVE FUND FOR THIS PURPOSE; PROVIDING FOR THE
ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
Staff Summary:
As an educator and community leader Councilwoman Robinson understands the importance of
providing positive role models and mentors for young girls. The Miami Gardens Ladies of Virtue
“LOV” Mentoring Program is a joint initiative sponsored by Councilwoman Robinson in
partnership with the Children’s Village a non-profit organization, to empower and cultivate
possibilities of young teenage girls.

“LOV’s” Mission is to enrich, expose and cultivate high school girls’ awareness, so they can
have a head-start in becoming independent and successful women.
“LOV’s” Goal is to pair high school girls with female mentors who will be positive role models
and help to advance the girls’ goals and objectives throughout the school year, and potentially
throughout the rest of their lives by forming lifelong friendships and bonds.
“LOV’s” objective is to mentor high school girls by cultivating leadership skills, enhancing life
skills, and encouraging community involvement.
Fiscal Impact
The funding will be derived from the “working capital reserve” account 01-11-01-511-991-00.
Upon approval, staff will transfer the requested funding to the appropriate expenditure line item.
The balance of the “working capital reserve” account after this transfer will be $32,936.00.
Proposed Action:
Councilwoman Felicia Robinson recommends that the Council adopt this resolution in support of
The Miami Gardens Ladies of Virtue LOV Mentoring Program.
$2,000 funding to be allocated from the Capital Reserve Fund.

It is the highest priority of the City of Miami Gardens to ensure the safety and wellbeing
of all citizens. In order to provide a safe and secure atmosphere for our community,
volunteers, and volunteers of youth programs, will be screened. The City of Miami
Gardens will incur all costs of the background screenings. All information received from
the background check applications and reports will be used for the purpose of
determining applicant’s eligibility as a volunteer or participant with the City of Miami
Gardens. Thank you for your support and cooperation in this very important matter.
Eligibility Criteria NO Volunteer will be accepted who has been:
A. Arrested or convicted of any crime involving sexual misconduct with or
against a minor.
B. Arrested or convicted for any type of violent crime.
C. Arrested or convicted of any crime involving illegal drugs or alcohol
D. Arrested or convicted of child abuse or domestic violence.
All arrests and convictions will be examined in order to determine whether the incident
is related to the volunteer position. In these situations eligibility determinations are
based on a minimum of the last five years.
