A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING NEIGHBORHOOD CRIME WATCH
PROGRAMS IN THE CITY; AUTHORIZING A DONATION IN THE
AMOUNT OF ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1000.00) EACH TO THE
NORWOOD, BRENTWOOD, SCOTT LAKE, PENTAB AND RIVER VIEW
NEIGHBORHOOD CRIME WATCH PROGRAMS FROM THE WORKING
CAPITAL RESERVE FUND; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
Staff Summary:
Crime watch programs allow communities to come together to take responsibility for their
neighborhoods and to prevent crime. Practicing crime safety measures eliminates opportunities for
criminals and helps others avoid becoming victims of crime. The active crime watch programs in the City

of Miami Gardens organize monthly meetings where Residents voice concerns or present prevention
and solution ideas to potential or current problems. In addition, members volunteer to maintain
awareness of their surroundings. In an effort to support the local organizations that help reduce reduce
crime in our community Mayor Oliver Gilbert would like to make a one time donation of $1000.00 each
to the Norwood, Brentwood, Scott Lake, Pentab, and River View Neighborhood Crime Watch Programs.
Fiscal Impact The funding will be derived from the “working capital reserve” account and upon
Council approval, staff will transfer the funding to the appropriate line item. The “working capital
reserve” account after the above transfer will have a balance of $22,936.00
Proposed Action:
The Mayor proposes that the City Council approve this resolution.
