A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING THE SUM OF ONE
THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($1,500.00) FROM
COUNCILMAN HARRIS' SPECIAL EVENTS ACCOUNT, FOR THE
PURPOSE OF SPONSORING THE SECOND ANNUAL K-FAITH
WALK TO CURE CANCER, ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4,
2017, AT ROLLING OAKS PARK; PROVIDING FOR THE
ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Councilman Harris is hosting the second annual K-Faith Walk to
Cure Cancer, and
WHEREAS, last year, approximately 200 residents from Miami Gardens and
surrounding communities participated in the walk, and
WHEREAS, Live Healthy Miami Gardens as well as other Health Care
professionals will be on hand to provide helpful information about healthy living habits
and provide give aways to participants, and
WHEREAS, according to the National Cancer Institute in 2016, there were an
estimated 1,685,210 new cases of cancer diagnosed, and
WHEREAS, the number of new cancer cases will rise to 22 million within the next
two decades, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Harris continues his efforts to brining added awareness
to the City of Miami Gardens' and it's residents as it relates to cancer awareness,
treatment and prevention, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS;
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the allocation of One Thousand Five Hundred ($1,500.00) from
Councilman Harris' Special Event Account for the purpose of sponsoring the Second
Annual K-Faith Walk to Cure Cancer.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON October 25, 2017.

Staff Summary:
Councilman Rodney Harris is hosting the second annual K-Faith Walk to Cure Cancer, to be held November
4, 2017, at Rolling Oaks Park. Last year, approximately 200 residents from Miami Gardens and surrounding
communities participated in the walk. Live Healthly Miami Gardens as well as other Health Care
professionals will be on hand to provide helpful information about healthy living habits and provide give
aways to participants.

Fiscal Impact
After the above allocation of $1,500, Councilman Harris will have an available balance of $3,500 for FY
2018.
Proposed Action:
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council approves the resolution to allocate $1,500 for the purpose of
hosting the second annual K-Faith Walk to Cure Cancer.
