A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, CO-DESIGNATING NW 185TH
TERRACE EAST OF NW 27TH AVENUE TO THEORETICAL NW
25TH AVENUE AS PRESIDENT BARACK AND MICHELLE
OBAMA BOULEVARD: PROVIDING FOR DIRECTIONS TO THE
CITY MANAGER; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Honorable Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United
States of America and is the first African American President elected in this United
States, and
WHEREAS, nine months after winning the 2008 Presidential Election, President
Obama was named the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and
WHEREAS, President Obama, along with First Lady Michelle Obama, are a
symbol of racial equality and cultural pride for African Americans and significant
prominence nationally and internationally, and
WHEREAS, on February 17, 2009, President Barack Obama signed into law the
America Recovery and Reinvestment Act ("ARRA"), which established Build America
Bonds, and
WHEREAS, Build America Bonds were created to reduce the cost of financing
for local government capital improvements, and
WHEREAS, the construction of the City's new municipal complex is being
financed with Build America Bonds, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Erhabor Ighodaro recommends that the City Council co-
designate the street, in which the new municipal complex will be located, as Barack and
Michelle Obama Boulevard,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby co-designates NW 185th Terrace east of NW 27th Avenue to theoretical NW
25th Avenue as President Barack and Michelle Obama Boulevard.
Section 3: DIRECTIONS TO THE CITY MANAGER: The City Manager is
hereby directed to take all steps necessary to change the street signage on NW 185th
Terrace for this purpose.
Section 4: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 9, 2013.

TERRACE BETWEEN NW 27TH AVENUE AND NW 25TH
AVENUE AS "PRESIDENT BARACK AND MICHELLE
OBAMA BOULEVARD"
WHEREAS, on January 9, 2013, the City Council of the City of Miami Gardens adopted
Resolution No, 2013-12-1808, which codesignated that portion of NW 185th Terrace between
NW 27lh Avenue and NW 25th Avenue as "President Barack and Michelle Obama Boulevard",
a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated by reference; and
WHEREAS, President Barack Obama is the 44th and current President of the United
States and is the first African-American to hold the office; and
WHEREAS, President Obama, along with First Lady Michelle Obama, have been an
inspiration to many residents of the City of Miami Gardens as well as many residents of Miami-
Dade County; and
WHEREAS, on February 17, 2009, President Obama signed into law the America
Recovery and Reinvestment Act ("ARRA"), which established Build America Bonds to help
reduce the cost of financing for local government capital improvements; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens recently constructed a new City HaU at 18605
NW 27th Ave using Build America Bonds; and
WHEREAS, this Board would like to approve the City of Miami Gardens codesignation
of that portion of NW 185th Terrace between NW 27th Avenue and NW 25th Avenue as
"President Barack and Michelle Obama Boulevard"; and

WHEREAS, that portion of NW 185tli Terrace between NW 27th Avenue and NW 25th
Avenue is a city street located in the City of Miami Gardens; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens wants the County to install signage indicating
this codesignation on County street signs and traffic signal masts arms; and
WHEREAS, this codesignation is located in County Commission District 1,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Approves the City of Miami Gardens codesignation of that portion of NW
185th Terrace between NW 27th Avenue and NW 25th Avenue as "President Barack and
Michelle Obama Boulevard".
Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to send certified copies of this Resolution to
the Miami Gardens City Council, the Miami Gardens City Manager, the United States Postal
Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works and Waste Management
Department, the Development Services Division of the Regulatory and Economic Resources
Department, the Miami Gardens Police Department and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue
Department.
The Prime Sponsor of the foregoing resolution is Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan. It
was offered by Commissioner Rebeca Sosa , who moved its adoption. The motion
was seconded by Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo, Jr. and upon being put to a vote, the vote
was as follows;
