A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING AN AD HOC CITIZENS
ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO RECOGNIZE THE LATE HONORABLE
WILKIE D. FERGUSON, JR. (SPONSORED BY MAYOR GIBSON)
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Miami Gardens recognizes the importance
of honoring and acknowledging the outstanding contributions made by the late Judge Wilkie
Ferguson; and
WHEREAS, Judge Ferguson, a resident of the City of Miami Gardens who's exceptional
public service and landmark rulings that improved the quality of life for thousands of disabled
Florida residents was the second African American appointed to the Federal bench; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Miami Gardens wishes to pay homage to
this remarkable community leader, friend and resident, therefore it is the desire of this Council to
establish an Ad Hoc Citizens Advisory Committee to organize means of honoring the late Judge
Wilkie D. Ferguson.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: Establishing Committee. An Ad Hoc Citizen Advisory Committee consisting of
seven members is hereby established to organize means of honoring the late Judge Wilkie D.
Ferguson.
Section 2: Each Council member will provide the administration with their selection to this
Committee by January 14, 2004.
Section 3: The Committee members will make recommendation of funding sources for
whatever recommendations they bring back to the Council.
Section 4: Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective immediately
upon adoption.

RECOMMENDATION:
The attached resolution is presented for your consideration.
REASONS:
This resolution establishes an Ad Hoc Citizens Advisory Committee to organize means of
honoring the late Judge Wilkie D. Ferguson. This citizens' advisory committee shall consist of
seven members, with each Council member appointing one member.
