A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ACKNOWLEDGING THE
APPOINTMENT OF FLORA JOHNSON TO THE VETERANS
AFFAIRS ADVISORY COMMITTEE; PROVIDING FOR THE
ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, in accordance with the creation of the Veterans Affairs Advisory
Committee, Councilman Rodney Harris, appoints Flora Johnson to the Veterans Affairs
Advisory Committee, and
WHEREAS, Ms. Flora Johnson's term will commence upon appointment and
shall expire August 2020, and
WHEREAS, once appointed, Ms. Johnson will adhere to the duties and powers
of the Advisory Committee as outlined in the Ordinance, and
WHEREAS, this Resolution acknowledges Councilman Rodney Harris,
appointment of Flora Johnson to the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby acknowledges the appointment of Flora Johnson to the Veterans Affairs
Advisory Committee for a term that shall expire August 2020.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON DECEMBER 13, 2017.

Staff Summary:
The City Council created the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee, comprised of seven (7)
members, with the Mayor and each Council Member making one appointment. The Committee Member
appointed by the Mayor and Council Member shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor or City Council

Each applicant for appointment to the Committee shall, as a prerequisite to consideration, file an
application on a form to be provided by the City Clerk, present a Voter's Registration Card, and State of
Florida Driver's License or current State of Florida Identification Card.
The Committee shall have the power to advise the City Council, and to submit written
recommendations concerning the following:
A. Policies and programs addressing the issues and needs of the veteran residents of the City.
B. Health, safety, and welfare issues.
C. Recreational issues affecting veterans.
D. Delivery of services to veterans, including health, medical, and social.
E. Any other matters that the City Council seeks guidance from the Committee on.
In accordance with the creation of the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee, Councilman Rodney
Harris appoints Flora Johnson. The term of office for all Committee members shall commence upon
appointment and shall expire August 2020. Ms. Johnson shall adhere to the duties and powers of the
Advisory Committee as outlined in the pertinent Ordinance.
Proposed Action:
Councilman Harris proposes that the City Council approve this resolution.
