A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER
TO MAKE A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 TO THE
TRAYVON MARTIN FOUNDATION FROM THE CITY
MANAGER'S SPECIAL EVENT ACCOUNT; PROVIDING FOR
THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Counciiwoman Lisa C. Davis hosted the Third Annual Miami
Gardens Food and Wine Experience, Saturday, November 11, 2017, where local chefs
and restaurants were provided a platform to display their talent with the Miami Gardens
community, and
WHEREAS, Counciiwoman Davis continues her efforts through the Wine & Food
Experience to promote philanthropy and bring cause-awareness to local nonprofit
organizations, and
WHEREAS, this year's charity of choice is the Trayvon Martin Foundation, and
WHEREAS, the Trayvon Martin Foundation is a social justice organization
committed to ending senseless gun violence, strengthening families through holistic
support, S.T.E.M. education for women and minorities and mentoring, and
WHEREAS, the strategy of the organization is to move from intervention to
reform, positively changing the lives of youth and their families through strategic
programming and perpetual services is at the core of their existence, and
WHEREAS, this charitable donation will be funded through a budgeted amount
not to exceed $5,000 in Fiscal Year 2018 Special Events account designated for each
Councilperson under the City Manager's Special Event Account, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Davis is requesting that a charitable donation in the
amount of $5,000 is given to the Trayvon Martin Foundation from the City Manager's
Special Events Account,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby directs the City Manager to make a donation in the amount of $5,000 to the
Trayvon Martin Foundation from the City Manager's Special Event Account.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON DECEMBER 13, 2017.

Fiscal Impact
After the above allocation, no funding will be available for Councilwoman Davis under the City Council Special
Events account.
Proposed Action:
Recommend Council approval of the resolution in support of making a charitable donation to the Trayvon
Martin Foundation.
