A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, CONFIRMING MAYOR OLIVER
GILBERT APPOINTMENT OF VERNITA NELSON AS INTERIM
CITY CLERK FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS; PROVIDING
FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Ronetta Taylor, the City Clerk, has given notice that she intends to
retire in January 2018, and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 3.6 of the City's Charter, the Mayor shall
appoint the City Clerk subject to the approval of the majority of the City Council, and
WHEREAS, Mayor Oliver Gilbert has undertaken a process to review potential
candidates for the City Clerk position, and
WHEREAS, it is important that the City has someone designated as the City
Clerk to perform the City Clerk's duties until such time as the Mayor is prepared to
appoint a City Clerk for confirmation by the City Council, and
WHEREAS, Assistant City Manager Vernita Nelson has graciously agreed to
step in and serve as Interim City Clerk until such time as the Mayor can make a
permanent appointment for confirmation by the City Council, and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Nelson will retain her title as Assistant City Manager
along with her current salary and benefits during her interim appointment,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby confirms appointment of Vernita Nelson as Interim City Clerk for the City of
Miami Gardens, until such time as a permanent City Clerk can be appointed by the
Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 10, 2018.

Staff Summary:
