A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO ALLOCATE AN ADDITIONAL TWENTY—FIVE
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($25,000.00), DURING FISCAL YEAR
2018-2019, TO SUSTAIN THE GUN VIOLENCE REDUCTION
PROGRAM; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, since August 2017, the City of Miami Gardens Police Department
(MGPD) has been working in concert with the City of Miami Police and Miami-Dade
County Police Department to develop a comprehensive Gun Violence Reduction, and
WHEREAS, this coalition of public safety professionals reviewed three different
organizations and strategies used in New York, California, Chicago and Baltimore, and
WHEREAS, the Circle of Brotherhood is a local organization and group with the
street credibility needed to effectively intervene with groups of troubled youth in our
community, and
WHEREAS, at the June 27, 2018, Council Meeting, the Council of the City of
Miami Gardens authorized the City Manager to allocate One Hundred Twenty-Five
Thousand Dollars ($125,000.00) during fiscal year 2018-2019, to sustain a gun violence
reduction program, and
WHEREAS, Staff recommends the City Council of the City if Miami Gardens,
authorize the City Manager to allocate an additional Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars
($25,000.00) during fiscal year 2018-2019, to sustain the gun violence reduction
program,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the City Manager to allocate Twenty—Five Thousand Dollars
($25,000.00), during fiscal year 2018-2019, to sustain the gun violence reduction
program.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JUNE 12, 2019.
