A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER
TO CONDUCT A FEASIBILITY STUDY ON THE CONSTRUCTION
OF A MUNICIPAL WATER PARK AS PART OF THE GENERAL
OBLIGATION BOND AT EITHER MYRTLE GROVE PARK POOL
OR BRENTWOOD POOL; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on April 11, 2014, qualified electors of the City of Miami Gardens
approved a $60 million General Obligation Bond referendum for park improvements and
crime prevention, including purchasing and installing crime prevention equipment,
providing facilities for expanding community activities in parks, and renovating,
constructing and purchasing park facilities and land, and
WHEREAS, as a result, on May 28, 2014 the City Council adopted Ordinance
No. 2014-09-320, authorizing the borrowing of Sixty Million Dollars, using a portion of
said funds to pay cost of remodeling, reconstructing, constructing, reconfiguring,
retrofitting, furnishing and equipping City parks and park facilities, and
WHEREAS, the City Council initially approved the Bond Implementation Plan
(BIP) on February 25, 2015, and
WHEREAS, the last amendment to the BIP was approved at the
December 9, 2015, Council Meeting, and
WHEREAS, included in the December amendment was a request to evaluate the
Myrtle Grove Pool, demolish the existing pool and pool house that is no longer
functional at Brentwood Pool, while replacing it with a new pavilion with picnic tables,
grill, electricity and domestic water with a small water play area adjacent to the pavilion,
and
WHEREAS, there hasn't been any amendment t the Bond Implementation Plan
to include rebuilding the Myrtle Grove Park Pool or Brentwood Pool, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Katrina Wilson proposes that the City Council directs
the City Manager to determine the feasibility of constructing as part of the GOB a
Municipal Water Park to include water slides, multi-level interactive water play
structures, splash pads, and FlowRider stationary surfing machines, etc. at either Myrtle
Grove Pool or Brentwood Pool,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1 : ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby directs the City Manager to determine the feasibility of constructing as part of the
GOB a Municipal Water Park to include water slides, multi-level interactive water play
structures, splash pads, and/or FlowRider stationary surfing machines, etc. at either
Myrtle Grove Pool or Brentwood Pool.
Section 1 EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETIN LD ON JULY 24, 2019.
