HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-168-3297 Match Fund Award National Police Dog Foundation RESOLUTION NO. 2019-168-3297 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING A TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($2,500.00) MATCHING FUND AWARD FROM THE NATIONAL POLICE DOG FOUNDATION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ANY AND ALL DOCUMENTS RELATED TO THE ACCEPTANCE OF THIS AWARD; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, MGPD Canine Unit is currently comprised of one (1) explosives detection dog and three (3) narcotics detection dogs; all which are also trained in apprehension, and WHEREAS, in May, 2018, the Miami Gardens Police Department (MGPD) made history by assigning its first female officer, Officer Sylvia Caceres, to the MGPD Canine Unit, and WHEREAS, Officer Caceres does not have a canine of her own, however, she is working amongst her fellow K9 colleagues to enhance her knowledge and procedural efforts, and WHEREAS, Officer Caceres' passion for the job coupled with the fact that she loves animals, displays that she is a good fit for a canine. WHEREAS, the MGPD has applied for general assistance from the National Police Dog Foundation (NPDF) for a police canine, and WHEREAS, MGPD has been awarded a matching fund donation of Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($2,500.00) from the National Police Dog Foundation (NPDF), and WHEREAS, the matching donation will significantly assist MGPD in its endeavor to continue to provide exceptional service to protect Miami Gardens citizens and continue to thwart and apprehend those who seek to victimize those who live, work, and visit the City of Miami Gardens, and WHEREAS, Staff recommends that the City Council approve the City Manager to accept the Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($2,500.00) donation and fund the match amount, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section Z ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT/AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby accepts the Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($2,500.00) award from the National Police Dog Foundation grant. The City Council further authorizes the City Manager to execute any and all documents related to the acceptance of this award Section 1 EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
