A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE SEVENTH
(7TH) ANNUAL NATIONAL HIV/AIDS AND AGING AWARENESS
DAY AS WELL AS SICKLE CELL AWARENESS MONTH HOSTED
BY COUNCILWOMAN LILLIE Q. ODOM AND OTHER
COMMUNITY PARTNERS ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26,
2019; AUTHORIZING A SPONSORSHIP OF THE EVENT IN THE
AMOUNT THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($3,000.00) FROM THE
CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL EVENTS ACCOUNT; PROVIDING FOR
THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the HIV/AIDS epidemic is still a concern and because there is no
cure, reducing the transmission of HIV while minimizing its effect on those living with
HIV is critical. It is reported that Miami-Dade County ranks high for new infections, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Lillie Q. Odom and various community partners
continue to bring awareness through education, outreach and engagement in the
community, and
WHEREAS, the spotlight will be on HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness, and
WHEREAS, the month of September is designated by Congress as National
Sickle Cell Awareness month and as such; it too will be the focus, and
WHEREAS, the purpose is to increase awareness and the need for research and
treatment, this year's theme is "Sickle Cell Matters," and
WHEREAS, the events' agenda will include representatives from the health
industry, vendors, social workers and several guest speakers, and
WHEREAS, the National HIV/AIDS and Aging and Sickle Cell Awareness annual
event will be on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the Betty T. Ferguson Center
Auditorium, 3000 NW 199,, Street, Miami Gardens, FL 33056 from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00
p.m., and
WHEREAS, funds for this event will be allocated from the Special Events
Account No. 001-11-01-511-491-01, in the amount of Three Thousand Dollars
($3,000.00),
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby supports the Seventh (7th) Annual National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness
Day as well as Sickle Cell Awareness Month hosted by Councilwoman Lillie Q. Odom
and other community partners on Thursday, September 26, 2019, and authorizes a
sponsorship of the event in the amount Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00) from the
City Council Special Events Account 001-11-01-511-491-01.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2019.
