A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR HISPANIC
HERITAGE MONTH FROM SEPTEMBER 15TH TO OCTOBER
15TH; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, in the United States, National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated
annually from September 15th to October 15th, and
WHEREAS, it began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon
B. Johnson and progressed to a month-long celebration in 1988 under President Ronald
Reagan, and
WHEREAS, during this month, community leaders celebrate the customs,
legacies, culture and achievements of U.S. citizens with Hispanic roots, and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens deems this national recognition noteworthy
because of its large percentage of Hispanic residents and employees, and
WHEREAS, Hispanic Americans have enhanced and shaped our national
character with centuries-old traditions that reflect the multi-ethnic and multi-cultural
customs of their community, and
WHEREAS, many South Florida municipalities and businesses participate in
National Hispanic Heritage Month by hosting film screenings, concerts, festivals, art
exhibits and more, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Erhabor Ighodaro recognizes the invaluable contributions
made to this community by Hispanic Americans, and is urging the City Council to
acknowledge and support October 2019 as Hispanic Heritage Month,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1 : ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made
a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: EXPRESSION OF SUPPORT: The City Council of the City of Miami
Gardens hereby expresses its support for Hispanic Heritage Month during the month of
October.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 9, 2019
