CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL The City Council Members for the City of Miami Gardens, Florida, met, Wednesday, September 25, 2019, beginning at 7:00 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, 18605 NW 27 h Avenue, Miami Gardens, Florida. The following members of the City Council were present: Vice Mayor Harris, and Council Members: Lillie Q. Odom, Katrina Wilson, Erhabor Ighodaro and David Williams Jr. Also in attendance were: City Manager Cameron Benson, City Attorney Sonja K. Dickens and City Clerk Mario Bataille. PUBLIC COMMENTS Hakeem Amoda, 3262 NW 203`d Street, Miami Gardens, FL, appeared before City Council on behalf of the Riverview Watchers Neighborhood Crime Prevention Group, to invite City Council to their anniversary celebration on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 6pm and to thank them for their assistance. Marjorie Cross, 1425 NW 193`d Terrace, Miami Gardens, FL, appeared before City Council as the Membership Chair for Miami Norland Senior High PTSA. She encouraged everyone to show support by attending the NMB City Hall on Thursday, September 26, 2019 for a meeting regarding the water issue. Patricia Campbell Cole, 2350 NW 187th Street, appeared before City Council to ask about the Senior Center. She wanted to know if the project will break ground this year, if it was budgeted in the New Year's budget and if it will be completed by next year. Bland Williams, 17040 NW 18th Avenue, appeared before City Council to thank the Public Works Department for their work on the sidewalks in his community. He presented awards to a few employees. Leroy Conyers, 18714 NW 32"d Place, appeared before City Council to address the issue of being cited for needing to pressure clean the sidewalk in hopes that the City can do something about it. Jo Ann Harris, 5020 NW 197th Street, appeared before City Council to ask for a letter of support for the Find Your Beat Performing Art Series; an effort to bring the arts to the City and get the youth involved in the arts. Mayor Gilbert explain that the public right-a-way and sidewalks are the homeowners responsibility. Mayor Gilbert added additional comments that a large portion of the City's budget fund programs for the youth and Senior Citizens. Councilman Williams added additional comments in support of Mayor Gilbert's argument. Councilman Ighodaro acknowledged Mrs. Walker who was raising her hand from the audience. 3 1 P a g e Mayor Gilbert informed Mrs. Walker that he or the City Manager will address her concerns after the meeting, due to the format of the meeting does not allow for a Q&A session during the meeting. 8. The City of Miami Gardens. 17. REPORTS OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBERS (3 MINUTES EACH) Councilwoman Odom reminded everyone about the National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day along with National Sickle Cell Month to be recognized on Thursday, September 26th from 10am-2pm at Betty Ferguson Recreation Complex. She encouraged everyone to attend and especially for the 50+ year olds to attend to be tested and to get all of the information that is available, as it relates to HIV/AIDS. She also announced on September 30th, from 2-4pm at Buccaneer Park, the historical ribbon cutting for the first military veteran parking spaces. Councilman Williams thanked everyone involved in Women in Law Enforcement. He announced the remodeling of the Botanical Garden, Saturday, September 28th from 8am-12pm. He also thanked the City Manager, City Attorney, Craig Clay and everyone involved with Jessie Trice for getting the project started. Mayor Gilbert announced the Senior Center will break ground and begin demolition this year. 18. WRITTEN REQUESTS, PETITIONS & OTHER WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC 19.
