A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE APPROVAL
OF THE REQUEST TO NAME THE NEW PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
ON NW 199TH STREET AS "THE MAYOR OLIVER GILBERT, III
BRIDGE" AND THE PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE LOCATED EAST OF
THE STADIUM AT THE 199TH STREET FLORIDA TURNPIKE
ACCESSWAY AS "SENATOR OSCAR BRAYNON BRIDGE";
PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on July 13, 2016, byway of Resolution Number 2016-125-3024,
Council agreed to support the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the
Florida Turnpike Enterprise, in providing and expediting the construction of two
pedestrian bridges and tunnel adjacent to the stadium, and
WHEREAS, the project will greatly assist pedestrian safety and vehicular traffic
flow in the vicinity of the stadium, particularly when there are large events, and
WHEREAS, on December 13, 2017, byway of Resolution Number 2017-192-
3297, the Council further agreed to take ownership of the bridges and tunnels and to
execute the FDOT Funded Agreement to facilitate the works, however, the maintenance
and operations of the project are the responsibility of the Stadium, and
WHEREAS, the Brand Advocates and the Project Team, provides community
outreach and public information for the Hard Rock Pedestrian Safety Improvements
Project, and
WHEREAS, the Brand Advocates and the Project Team approached the City
with a view of naming these two bridges in honor of Major Oliver Gilbert, III and Senator
Oscar Braynon for their sterling contributions to the City of Miami Gardens, and
WHEREAS, Staff recommends approval of the request to name the new
Pedestrian Bridge on NW 199th Street as "the Mayor Oliver Gilbert III Bridge" and the
Pedestrian Bridge located east of the Stadium at the 199th Street Florida Turnpike
accessway as " Senator Oscar Braynon Bridge",
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the approval of the request to name the new Pedestrian Bridge on
NW 199th Street as "the Mayor Oliver Gilbert III Bridge" and the Pedestrian Bridge
located east of the Stadium at the 199th Street Florida Turnpike accessway as "Senator
Oscar Braynon Bridge".
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON NOVEMBER 13, 2019.
