Re: Public Services Allocation (Community Development Block Grant Funds)
As a result of continued requests for funding from various non-profit organizations, City Council
asked the City Manager to provide a policy recommendation to address the issue. It was the
administration's recommendation that Community Development Block Grant Funds (CDBG) be
used as a source to fund these types of requests.
On January 31, 2007, the department of Community Development issued a Request for Proposals
(RFP) from organizations involved in providing Public Services. The RFP made available an
amount of up to $25,000 per request with a total availability of funds in the amount of $150,000.
Proposals were due on February 28, 2007.
A total of four (4) organizations submitted proposals. The organizations were: 1) The Life and
Learning Center, 2) The Alliance for Musical Arts, 3)The City of Miami Gardens Parks &
Recreation Department, and 4)Concerned African Women, Inc. Each of the proposals was
evaluated by a committee comprised of City staff. All of the proposals scored above the minimum
required points to be considered for funding. A resolution allocating CDBG funds to each of these
organizations is required.
The funding recommendations and program summaries are as follows:
Name Recommended Funding Program Summary
The Life & Learning Center $25,000 Seniors Financial Literacy
Alliance for Musical Arts $24,968 Youth Program
City of Miami Gardens (Parks Dept) $20,178 Youth Program
