Summary The Miami Gardens Jaycees conducted its third annual Distinguished Service Awards on June 9th, 2007 (Attachment 1- Invitation & Newspaper Article). This annual ceremony recognizes and honors City of Miami Gardens' employees, residents, as well as businesses for their exemplary services and contributions to the community. In preparing for the event I anticipated assisting by using my monthly expense allowance to underwrite the sponsorship of the food, which amounted to $3,100 (Attachment 2- Invoice). I was not fully aware of the protocol for Councilmembers to expend their monthly allowance at these levels, or to commit sponsorship funds from the City. I was later informed that this commitment needed Council's approval. I request Council's after-the-fact approval for $3,100 sponsorship in food for the Jaycee's Distinguished Service Awards, conducted on June 9"', 2007. J-8) CONSENT AGENDA RESOLUTION JAYCEES EXPENDITURES Resolution No. RESOLUTION No. 2007 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO CONTRIBUTE THE SUM OF THREE THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($3,100.00) DOLLARS FOR EXPENDITURES OF THE JAYCEES' PAID OR INCURRED BY THE JAYCEES IN CONNECTION WITH ITS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARDS PROGRAM HELD ON JUNE 9, 2007; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. 1 2 3 4 5 6 WHEREAS, the Miami Gardens' Jaycees held its annual Distinguished Service Awards Program on Saturday, June 9,2007, and WHEREAS, the Miami Gardens' Jaycees provide valuable organizational services for the community, and WHEREAS, the Jaycees are a non-profit community membership organization, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY 7 OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: 8 Section 1. ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas 9 paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby 10 made a specific part of this Resolution. 11 Section 2. AUTHORIZATION: The City Manager is hereby authorized to 12 13 14 15 16 17 reimburse or pay directly, as appropriate, the sum of Three Thousand One Hundred ($3,100.00) Dollars expended by or the obligation for which was incurred by the Miami Gardens Jaycees and for its annual Distinguished Service Awards Program, held Saturday, June 9, 2007. Section 3.
