A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER TO PROVIDE THE CITY COUNCIL WITH A
REPORT ON THE FEASIBILITY OF PARTNERSHIPS WITH
ADDITIONAL OUTSIDE ORGANIZATIONS TO EXPAND THE
GUN VIOLENCE REDUCTION PROGRAM IN MIAMI
GARDENS, PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Miami Gardens Police Department has been working in
conjunction with the City of Miami Police and Miami-Dade Police Departments to
develop a comprehensive Gun Violence Reduction program since August 2017, and
WHEREAS, this coalition of public safety professionals reviewed three different
organizations and strategies used in New York, California, Chicago and Baltimore, and
WHEREAS, the Circle of Brotherhood is a Miami-Dade County based
organization that was identified as having the appropriate capacity, capability, and
credibility needed to effectively intervene with groups of troubled youth in the City of
Miami Gardens, and
WHEREAS, during the June 27, 2018 Council Meeting, the Council of the City of
Miami Gardens unanimously passed Resolution No. 2018-116-3430, authorizing the
City Manager to allocate One Hundred Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars ($125,000.00)
beginning in fiscal year 2018-2019, to sustain a gun violence reduction program, and
WHEREAS, during the June 12, 2019 Council Meeting, the Council of the City of
Miami Gardens unanimously passed Resolution No. 2019-131-3260, authorizing the
City Manager to expend an additional Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00) to
sustain the City's gun violence reduction program, and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens officially entered into a contract with The
Circle of Brotherhood, Inc. to manage the City's gun violence reduction program on July
27, 2019, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Erhabor Ighodaro is requesting that the City Manager
provides the City Council with a report on the feasibility of partnerships with additional
outside organizations to expand the Gun Violence Reduction Program in Miami
Gardens, and
WHEREAS, the study shall be made available to the City Council during the
2020-2021 fiscal year budget meeting,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: DIRECTING: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby
directs the City Manager provide the City Council with a report on the feasibility of
partnerships with additional outside organizations to expand the Gun Violence
Reduction Program in Miami Gardens, and directs that the City Manager provides the
report during the 2020-2021 fiscal year budget meeting.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JULY 8, 2020.
