A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, URGING THE FEDERAL
AVIATION ADMINISTRATION (FAA) TO MODIFY FLIGHT
PATHS AND ALTITUDES IMPOSED BY THE NEXTGEN AIR
TRANSPORTATION PLAN TO PRE-NEXTGEN STANDARDS;
PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has imposed new flight
patterns as part of the NextGen Air Transportation system; and
WHEREAS the resulting changes in flight paths and altitudes has a negative
impact on the quality of life for a large number of Miami-Dade County residents,
including the City of Miami Gardens, and
WHEREAS, the City has received calls and emails from concerned citizens
directly affected by the change in flight patterns, with neighborhoods increasingly
affected by noise, light and air pollution from low-flying aircraft, and
WHEREAS, any savings realized by the NextGen system should be balanced
against the growing impact on local governments, and
WHEREAS, the City urges the FAA to revisit the NextGen flight pattern plan and
wherever possible, revert to the former flight paths as soon as possible,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: RECOMMENDATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby urges the Federal Aviation Administration to modify flight paths and altitudes
imposed by NextGen Air transportation to Pre-NextGen standards
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.
