A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM
COUNCILWOMAN SHANNAN IGHODARO'S PUBLIC AFFAIRS
SPECIAL EVENTS ACCOUNT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED TWO THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS
($2,5000.00), IN SUPPORT OF THE JONES FAMILY
FOUNDATION ; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, According to a Washington Post report African Americans have
been disproportionately affected by the corona virus pandemic, and
WHEREAS, The Washington post has also reported that Blacks and Hispanic
Americans have also seen the most adverse economic consequences of the covid-19
pandemic, and
WHEREAS, The CDC and the Federal government has recognized the needs in
our communities and ensuing legislations like the Cares Act and the Public Private
Partnership (PPP) grant has been enacted to provide relief for our communities, and
WHEREAS, too many small businesses designed to benefit for the PPP grant
have not been able to successfully assess grant monies, and
WHEREAS, The Jones Family Foundation (JFF)), a Not-For-Profit 501 (c) (3)
organization, is a Miami Gardens based organization that specializes in financial
literacy, financial management, business support and economic revitalization, and
WHEREAS, Ever since its inception in 2005, JFF has provided workshops and
hundreds of presentation on topics such as accounting, taxes, financial literacy, social
and psychological aspects of the borrowing and investment behaviors of middle and
high income Americans, consumer credit, and couponing, and
WHEREAS, Due to the adverse impact of the covid-19 pandemic on our
community and the need to support local mom and pop businesses in Miami Gardens,
JFF is scheduled to launch a small business development and assistance program on
Saturday January 30, 2021, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Shannan Ighodaro is requesting funding from the
Public Affairs Special Events Account in the amount of$2,500.00 to support the Jones
Family Foundation Small Business Development and Assistance Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby allocated funds from the Seat 3 Public Affairs Special Events Account for Two
Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($2,500), to support the Jones Family Foundation
Small Business Development and Assistance Program.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
