A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO UTILIZE FUNDS BUDGETED FOR CITY
EVENTS FROM FISCAL YEAR 2021 THAT WERE CANCELLED
DUE TO COVID-19 TO COVER COST ASSOCIATED WITH
HOSTING THE BLACK HISTORY MONTH DRIVE-IN AND VIBE
MOVIE NIGHT, FEBRUARY 20, 2021, NUNC PRO TUNC;
PROVIDING FOR INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CITY MANAGER
PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Miami Gardens has
made significant adjustments to how we engage our residents to meet their needs while
ensuring their safety, and
WHEREAS, many of our residents have been shut in for over nine months in an
effort to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols, and
WHEREAS, in honor of Black History Month, Vice Mayor Reggie Leon along with
Councilwomen Katrina Wilson and Shannon Campbell partnered with SocialXchange to
present a drive-in and vibe-in movie night, and
WHEREAS, this was presented in order for residents to be able to partake in a
safe and fun event, while maintaining social distancing, and
WHEREAS, it was also important for the Miami Gardens community to have an
activity which provided a cultural experience regarding the rich history of blacks in South
Florida, and
WHEREAS, the event was held on Saturday, February 20, 2021, 6:30pm, at
Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, and
WHEREAS, Vice Mayor Leon is requesting the City Manager to utilize funds
budgeted for canceled city events for fiscal year 2020-2021 to cover the cost
associated with the Drive-In and Vibe Movie Night, nunc pro tunc, to February 20, 2021,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the City Manager to utilize funds budgeted for canceled city events
for fiscal year 2020-2021 to cover the cost associated with Drive-In and Vibe Movie
Night, nunc pro tunc, to February 20, 2021.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON FEBRUARY 24, 2921.
