A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, NAMING THE CITY’S BOTANICAL
GARDEN LOCATED AT 18320 N.W. 12TH AVENUE AS THE
“DAVID WILLIAMS, JR BOTANICAL GARDEN;’ PROVIDING FOR
INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CITY MANAGER; PROVIDING FOR
THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Councilman David Williams, Jr. has spearheaded the creation and
maintenance of the City’s botanical garden located at 18320 N.W. 12th Avenue, and
WHEREAS, he has ensured that the City’s name – MIAMI GARDENS – is
represented by the botanical garden in all aspects, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Williams has spent countless hours tending to the garden
and developing all of the plants and trees, and he has bought attention to the garden by
hosting such events as “Miracle in the Garden” where the community was able to learn
about gardening and healthy food choices, and
WHEREAS, he was also instrumental in the remodeling of the botanical garden
earlier this year, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Reggie Leon believes that it is fitting that the City Council
name the Botanical Garden as the “David Williams, Jr. Botanical Garden and direct the
City Manager to plan a naming ceremony for the Garden and to erect the appropriate
signage at the garden in accordance with the attached Resolution,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby renames the City’s botanical garden located at 18320 N.W. 12th Avenue, as
the “David Williams, Jr. Botanical Garden.”
Section 3: DIRECTIONS TO THE CITY MANAGER: The City Manager is hereby
directed to plan a naming ceremony for the Garden and to erect the appropriate signage
at the garden in accordance with this Resolution.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
